Splunk co-founder Swan steps down as CTO, replaced by ex-Continuuity CEO

on November 8, 2013

Splunk(s splk) Co-founder Erik Swan (pictured above) has stepped down from his CTO role and has been replaced by Todd Papaioannou. Papaioannou, who has held executive positions at Yahoo(s yhoo), Teradata(s tdc) and Greenplum(s emc), was most recently an entrepreneur in residence at venture capital firm Data Collective and was co-founder and CEO of big data startup Continuuity before that.

Swan co-founded machine-data specialist Splunk in 2003 after spending decades as a software engineer (including at Apple and Disney). Splunk, of course, went public in 2012 and has fared very well in the public market. He’ll stay on as a senior adviser to the executive team while, presumaby, plotting his next startup idea.

Because I thought it was a fun discussion, here is Swan, then-Pachube CEO Usman Haque and I talking about the Internet of Things and the quantified self movement at Structure Data 2012.
